Covering 17,534 square miles along Colorado’s northern border, our region connects with Nebraska and Wyoming to the north, and Nebraska and Kansas to the east. With an estimated population of 803,157 (2023), the Northeast Colorado RETAC is a crucial hub for emergency medical and trauma services across nine counties.

Our region boasts natural wonders like one national park, numerous state parks, and the convergence of two interstate highways. Bordering three states underscores our importance as a crossroads for emergency medical services.

Governance

The Northeast Colorado RETAC is governed by a board of directors appointed by the Board of County Commissioners in each county. This structure ensures equal representation and balanced expertise from both pre-hospital and facility-based sectors. Our 18 representatives across the nine counties work to uphold the highest standards of care and coordination.

Mission and Operations

As one of 11 RETACs designated by the Colorado Revised Statutes, we operate within a framework of regular planning and budgeting cycles. Our mission is to facilitate seamless coordination among counties, agencies, and hospital facilities, driving toward cost-effective planning and goal implementation.

As a liaison between care providers and the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, we advocate for policies and practices prioritizing patient well-being.
