Overview:
The EMS Education & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing EMS training, compliance, and quality improvement initiatives across Wyoming. This role manages the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMS-C) grant, coordinates EMS-related programs, supports hospital preparedness within EMS agencies, and contributes to statewide EMS policy and system development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support two OEMS staff members, setting goals and ensuring accountability.
  • Oversee EMS education and compliance programs, ensuring alignment with state and federal quality improvement measures.
  • Manage EMS-C grant funding, budgets, and contracts, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing EMS policies, statutes, and rules while conducting investigations as needed.
  • Collaborate with local EMS agencies to assess and improve system performance.
  • Provide administrative support to EMS-related advisory committees.
  • Identify and pursue additional funding opportunities for EMS system development.
  • Support emergency response efforts as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in personnel management and supervision.
  • Background as an EMS educator and EMS field provider.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (preferably in healthcare)
  • Experience: 1–2 years in health programs, equivalent to a Health Program Specialist

OR

  • Education & Experience Substitution: 4–6 years of relevant experience in health programs in place of a degree.

Summary of Position: This position will work independently to support the EMTS Branch. It will serve as the primary coordinator of various stakeholder advisory bodies. These bodies, or boards, are intended to support emergency medical and trauma services throughout the state. The primary councils will include the State Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council (SEMTAC). They also include the Emergency Medical Practice Advisory Council (EMPAC) and related sub-bodies. Position also provides support for other Funding Section activities such as contract management, invoice processing, and technical assistance.

About the Job

The Northwest Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council (NWRETAC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the role of RETAC Coordinator. The NWRETAC serves the counties of Garfield, Mesa, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt.

Our Mission

To develop a coordinated and quality emergency medical and trauma services system, placing patient care at the forefront of all decision-making processes.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, contracted, remote position with periodic in-person meetings.

  • Contract range: $75,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Vehicle provided for official business.
  • Reimbursement for business-related travel and expenses.
  • Home office support, including a laptop, printer, and necessary supplies.

Position Overview

The RETAC Coordinator advises the council on matters related to emergency medical and trauma service programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Communicating with hospitals, EMS agencies, and training centers.
  • Collaborating with county and state representatives to enhance services.
  • Providing statistical data for state, regional, and council requirements.
  • Recommending improvements in procedures, protocols, or processes.
  • Managing the NWRETAC budget and overseeing grant priorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with hospital and pre-hospital data standards.
  • Supporting council operations and performance evaluations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in EMS, Nursing, Business, Public Administration, or a related field (commensurate experience considered).
  • Preferred: 5 years of emergency medical experience in nursing and/or paramedicine.
  • Experience with research, statistics, and quality standards.
  • Event planning and execution experience (e.g., conferences, seminars).
  • Supervisory experience in EMS or nursing.
  • Familiarity with Colorado EMS and trauma systems, accreditation, and state/national policies.
  • Reside in one of the five NWRETAC counties within one year of hire.
  • Unrestricted Colorado EMS Provider certification or Nursing Licensure.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, digital communication tools, and videoconferencing.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a liaison between the NWRETAC Executive Council, healthcare facilities, prehospital agencies, County Commissioners, and CDPHE.
  • Maintain accurate records, including budgets and activity reports, in compliance with state and council requirements.
  • Disseminate information rapidly to avoid duplication of effort among agencies.
  • Provide technical assistance and support CQI and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in onboarding and election procedures for the NWRETAC Executive Council.
  • Support local emergency planning, exercises, and drills.
