About This Committee
The Public Information, Education & Relations (PIER) Committee enhances public awareness of EMS and trauma services, fosters community engagement, and coordinates public communications across the NCRETAC region. The committee manages outreach campaigns, supports CARES Registry and PulsePoint public engagement, and builds relationships with community organizations, schools, and local government across all nine counties.
Public Education
Develops and distributes public education materials on emergency preparedness, injury prevention, and the EMS system to communities across the nine-county region.
Community Engagement
Strengthens relationships with community organizations, schools, and local government to promote EMS awareness and foster public trust in the regional emergency care system.
Emergency Communications
Serves as the central coordination point for public communications during regional emergencies, including media relations readiness for Board and agency representatives.
CARES Registry & PulsePoint
Supports NCRETAC data initiatives including CARES Registry reporting and PulsePoint public engagement through narrative development and public-facing storytelling.
Outreach Campaigns
Amplifies existing public safety campaigns through billboards, digital signage, social media, and community events to increase regional EMS awareness and education.
Media Relations Training
Builds internal capacity for effective messaging and media engagement for Board members and agency representatives across the region.

Committee Structure
The PIER Committee meets quarterly during the first month of each quarter, prior to the scheduled NCRETAC Board meeting. A majority of active members constitutes a quorum. Decisions are made by consensus; in the event of a tie, the Chair casts the deciding vote.
Chair
A current NCRETAC Board member, appointed by the President. Leads the committee, sets the agenda, and serves as liaison to the Board.
Co-Chair
A member with extensive public relations or education experience, appointed by the Board. Supports the Chair and brings communications expertise to committee activities.
Members
Public information officers, EMS leaders, community engagement professionals, and representatives from partner agencies. Representation from all nine counties is encouraged.
