About This Committee
The Workforce Development & Support Committee addresses workforce challenges across the EMS and trauma system, including recruitment, retention, training, professional development, and career pathways for EMS and trauma care personnel. The committee recognizes that a stable, skilled workforce is foundational to regional EMS system readiness across all nine counties.
Recruitment
Develops regional recruitment strategies and career pipeline partnerships to address persistent EMS workforce shortages across rural and frontier agencies.
Retention
Identifies and implements strategies that recognize rural operational realities and reduce attrition, including peer support, wellness programming, and leadership development.
Career Pathways
Supports EMS scholarship programs, certification pathways, and PARAMEDICON specialty credentialing to advance provider careers across the region.
Leadership Development
Develops leadership training opportunities and mentoring programs to build management capacity within EMS agencies across rural and frontier communities.
Health System Mentoring
Facilitates mentorship and experiential learning opportunities across hospital and EMS systems to support workforce development and long-term retention.
Coverage Gap Reduction
Supports efforts to identify and address geographic ambulance coverage gaps through workforce planning, shared response models, and regional coordination.
Committee Structure
The Workforce Development & Support Committee meets quarterly during the first month of each quarter, prior to the scheduled NCRETAC Board meeting. A majority of active members constitutes a quorum. Decisions are made by consensus; in the event of a tie, the Chair casts the deciding vote.
Chair
A current NCRETAC Board member, appointed by the President. Leads the committee, sets the agenda, and serves as liaison to the Board.
Co-Chair
A member with experience in EMS workforce development or human resources, appointed by the Board. Supports the Chair and brings relevant expertise to committee activities.
Members
EMS agency leaders, training officers, HR professionals, and community partners with an interest in EMS workforce sustainability. Representation from all nine counties is encouraged.
