Supervisors Bootcamp: Transitioning from Provider to Leader

Promotion into a supervisory role is one of the most difficult transitions in emergency services. You are still expected to perform clinically, but now you are responsible for leading people β€” often former peers β€” while navigating conflict, accountability, and ethical pressures.

The Supervisors Bootcamp is a practical, scenario-driven leadership program built specifically for front-line EMS and fire/EMS leaders. This is operational leadership you can apply immediately on your next shift.

This program helps supervisors:

  • Establish credibility in a new leadership role
  • Lead former peers without alienation
  • Address performance issues fairly and defensibly
  • Apply a Just Culture framework appropriately
  • Conduct effective coaching and difficult conversations
  • Avoid common ethical and leadership pitfalls

What You’ll Learn

This 16-hour interactive bootcamp focuses on the real-world skills new supervisors need to lead effectively.

  • Followership to Leadership
  • The Dynamics of Leadership
  • Understanding Yourself
  • Emotional Intelligence β€œGut Check”
  • What Followers Expect from Good Leaders
  • Role of the Supervisor
  • Introduction to Just Culture
  • Overview of Corrective Action
  • Coaching and Redirection 101
  • Crucial Conversations
  • Common Ethical Traps

Continue the Leadership Journey

Participants are strongly encouraged to continue their development in the Leadership Bootcamp on April 15–16, 2026, also hosted at the East Point Building in Fort Morgan.

While the Supervisors Bootcamp focuses on front-line leadership and day-to-day supervisory skills, the Leadership Bootcamp builds on these foundations and addresses:

  • Organizational culture development
  • Recruitment and retention strategy
  • Managing organizational change
  • Working effectively with boards and councils
  • Navigating political dynamics
  • Executive-level ethical dilemmas

Together, these two programs provide a comprehensive leadership development pathway for EMS professionals ready to grow beyond clinical excellence into sustainable organizational leadership.
